Self-Help Groups

VIC currently facilitates 24 self-help groups. Each Self Help Group has 10 to 12 members who are people with disabilities, or who have a disabled family member. Self Help Groups are for Veterans International patients living within the same communities. These groups create an opportunity for disabled Cambodians to socialize, share their stories, build self-confidence and generate ideas.

Members are empowered to have a voice in their communities to be included in community development. Each group is given a micro loan to manage and start small, self-sustaining co-op projects such as fish farms or rice banks. Members are responsible for managing their own group but VI staff routinely checks in to monitor the group’s progress
